Advisory

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS FORECASTING A STRONG STORM FOR THE EAST BAY TODAY THRU THURSDAY.

The National Weather Service has forecast a major storm that is arriving in our area today and lasting through Thursday.  This storm potentially is bringing 2-4 inches of rain, cold temperatures and high winds to the East Bay.  These winds may bring down trees and power lines, possibly resulting in outages. There may be another storm arriving on Friday.

The Town has a sandbag station at the Commons Park, 1425 St. Mary's Road, with sand, bags and a shovel.  This is self-service and please remember to only take what you need as your neighbors may also need some.

Please ensure that you are prepared for the storm by doing the following:

  • Ensure your emergency kit is stocked and ready for use.
  • Keep flashlights and extra batteries handy, in case the power goes out.
  • Is your food pantry stocked with non-perishable food, in case you don't have power to cook.
  • Keep cell phones charged as well as backup batteries.
  • Keep pets inside to protect them from the rain and cold.
  • Limit your driving - but if you have to go out, please drive safely and slowly as roads will be wet and slick.
  • If power goes out and you are using portable heaters, ensure they are properly vented to prevent carbon monoxide build up.  Do not use charcoal bbqs or heaters inside.
Obviously, this is not an all-encompassing list, but we should all be making appropriate preparations for our families.  There is some great information on the Internet about preparing for winter storms that you may find helpful.  Lastly, if you have neighbors who are elderly or need assistance, please check on them and assist them, if necessary.

Both the Moraga Police and Moraga-Orinda Fire Departments will be fully staffed and available to respond to emergencies during the storm.  If you are driving by an accident scene or other incident, please slow down, focus upon your driving and don't become distracted to help keep our first responders safe.

Please contact the Moraga Police (925-888-7055) or Moraga-Orinda Fire (925-258-4599) for more information.  For Emergencies, Call 9-1-1.  For non-emergency assistance, please call Dispatch at 925-284-5010.

As always, thank you for helping us to keep Moraga a safe community.
