Notable Cases
On Monday, 01-18-21 at 12:53 a.m., Officer Premenko was dispatched to a report of a man who stole coins from the washing machines in an apartment laundry room on the 500 block of Clarinada Avenue. The reporting party gave a description of the subject and took a photo of the suspect’s vehicle. The reporting party (property manager) said he was in his apartment and heard a vehicle park in his car port. The reporting party went to check on the vehicle and took a photograph of it. The reporting party went back inside his apartment complex and heard what sounded like the washing machines moving in the laundry room. The reporting party walked toward the laundry room and saw who he described as a Polynesian male in his mid to late 20’s run in front of him and into the parking lot. Officer Premenko determined the suspect’s identity, and then contacted the suspect, a 29-year old South San Francisco resident, who confessed to breaking into three washing machine coin boxes. The suspect also had heroin and crystal methamphetamine in his possession. A complaint will be sought against the suspect for burglary and possession of the heroin and methamphetamine.

The 35-year old victim died from an overdose of fentanyl. The victim’s brother, a 49-year old San Francisco resident, admitted to providing narcotics to his brother and was subsequently arrested for involuntary manslaughter and furnishing narcotics.
On Friday, 01-22-21 at 12:05 p.m., Sergeant Aquila saw a subject using a cellphone with both hands as the subject was driving in the area of Mission Street and John Daly Boulevard. Sergeant Aquila conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, and Officer Reyes arrived to assist. As the passenger was looking in the glove box for the vehicle registration, Officer Reyes asked the passenger if that was ammunition that she saw in the glove box. Sergeant Aquila asked the driver if there was a gun in the car, and the driver did not answer. Sergeant Aquila asked again, and he said the driver looked at the passenger and said he wasn’t sure. Sergeant Aquila asked the passenger if there was a gun in the car, and the passenger admitted there was. Sergeant Aquila found the firearm, a Ruger LCP .380, in a fabric case in the driver’s side door pocket. The 20-year old passenger from Nevada was cited for having a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
On Saturday, 01-23-21 at 11:06 p.m., Officer Lajoie attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle at Lake Vista Avenue and Fieldcrest Drive, but the vehicle accelerated away from him at a high rate of speed. Officer Lajoie decelerated and lost visual of the vehicle. Officer Lajoie then was driving on the unit block of Wilshire Avenue when he saw the vehicle hit a parked vehicle. Officer Hightower and his K-9 partner, Vex, tracked down the subject, and Officers Risslen, Sunga and Mendiara arrived to detain the subject, a 32-year old San Francisco resident. When Officer Risslen placed the subject in handcuffs and conducted a pat search, he felt something similar to a firearm in the subject’s right jacket sleeve. The officer removed the object and found it was a Winchester .357 revolver. The firearm was reported stolen to the Burlingame Police Department on 01-21-21. The vehicle the subject was driving was reported stolen to the San Francisco Police Department on 01-20-21. The officers found stolen property in the vehicle. The subject was arrested for possession of stolen property (the vehicle and the firearm), possession of a concealed firearm, committing a felony while on bail, and possession of a controlled substance. Because of Covid-19, the subject was not booked into jail and was issued a citation.
On Sunday, 01-24-21 at 2:28 p.m., Officer Abuan was dispatched to City Toyota on a report of an auto theft from the dealership parking lot on San Pedro Road. The report said the vehicle, a 2021 Toyota Camry, was in the process of being sold, and he brought the vehicle to the detail/car wash station. The reporting party left the key in the vehicle, and he returned 10 minutes later to find the vehicle was gone. The reporting party reviewed video surveillance and saw a suspect in his 30’s enter the vehicle and drive it out of the parking lot. On 01-25-21, the reporting party called to say they had received “pings” from this vehicle from the 400 block of St. Francis Boulevard. Officer Gill arrived at the location and found a subject near the vehicle.
