Advisory

NCPD urges our residents to exercise caution and be prepared for the upcoming winter storm.

The New Castle Police would like to urge our residents to exercise caution from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.  A winter storm may make travel hazardous during the morning and evening commutes, and the snow may cause electric service interruptions.

Avoid all unnecessary travel.  This allows vehicles that are on the road to safely reach their destinations, keep the roads open for emergency responders, and allows snow removal equipment to begin to clear roads.
In the event of life- or property-threatening emergencies, dial 911.  To report downed wires, road blockages, and non-life-threatening issues, contact (914) 238-4422.

Please do not call the Police if you lose power.  Calling the Police to report a power loss only serves to tie up emergency telephone lines.  You will be referred to contact Con Edison directly at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).  Calling Con Edison enters your power loss into their computerized database.  You can also report outages, view an outages map, and check outage status at www.conEd.com<http://www.coned.com/>.  When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
AVOID ALL FALLEN WIRES! Please keep in mind:

• You can't tell if a power line is energized just by looking at it. Assume all fallen power lines are live and proceed with extreme caution.

• Do not drive over fallen wires. Always follow police, fire, and utility personnel instructions regarding fallen power lines.

• If you see a fallen power line, stay at least 30 feet away from it and anything it contacts. The ground around a power line and any objects it contacts may be energized. Call 911 to report fallen wires.

• Do not attempt to move a fallen power line or anything else in contact with it using an object such as a broom or stick. Even non-conductive materials like wood or cloth can conduct electricity if even slightly wet.

We recommend all vehicles be parked off the roadway and remind residents not to leave vehicles parked on the street during the overnight hours.   If a snow emergency is declared, no vehicle can be parked or left on the road.  Vehicles may be summonsed and possibly towed if they hinder snow removal.

Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe.
