STORM UPDATE: DPW CREWS CONTINUE TO WORK TO KEEP ROADS CLEAR-ADDITIONAL 6-8" PROJECTED TO FALL
The Department of Public Works has now been clearing roads in excess of 24 hours and will continue to work in shifts through the night in order to keep roads passable for emergency vehicles and essential workers. The National Weather Service has reported localized snowfall amounts for our area in the 16-18" range with an additional 6-8" expected to fall overnight and into tomorrow. Please realize that this is an excessive amount of snow to deal with in a densely populated area such as the Borough. Priority one for the DPW is to keep public roads as widely cleared as possible, especially at intersections. Roads narrowed by snow accumulation and intersections impeded upon by snow piles pose a hazard to drivers and an impediment to emergency vehicles and school buses. Please also know that the mandate to clear the roads means that snow will be pushed onto the sidewalk and/or into driveways. This is unavoidable if the roads are to be cleared.
