Flock ALPR Leads To Arrest
On Monday, February 1, 2021 at approximately 3:53 p.m., Ontario Police officers responded to the area of the 2500 block of east Airport Drive after receiving a Flock camera notification for a wanted vehicle. The vehicle was possibly involved in a series of burglaries. The Flock cameras are automated license plate readers (ALPR), placed in designated areas of the city. The cameras capture license plate information allowing police dispatch to broadcast real-time information on the vehicle to patrol officers.
Officers located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the immediate area. Through the investigation, both the driver and passenger were found to be convicted felons and the passenger was currently on active parole. While searching the vehicle, officers located a firearm, illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools. In addition, officers also located vehicle parts and a license plate believed to be related to other burglaries. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were subsequently arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center on felony charges.
The Flock cameras are a vital resource to the City of Ontario and have a significant impact in deterring illegal activity and reducing theft crimes within the city.
