WINTER WEATHER SAFETY TIPS FOR DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS

TIPS FOR DRIVERS
• Use headlights any time there is adverse weather conditions.
• Allow more time when traveling from place to place.
• Increase normal following distance to allow more time to stop on wet and icy roads.
• Clear all ice, snow and dirt from windows, mirrors, and lights.
• Clear snow from all vehicle surfaces. Snow sliding off the roof can block the windshield
or be hazardous to other drivers.

TIPS FOR PEDESTRIANS
• Anticipate hazards as you walk. When you come to a corner, slow down.
• Utilize sidewalks whenever possible
• Pay particular attention when you are walking after dark. Drivers will have a difficult time
seeing you. Be sure to wear light-colored or reflective clothing and carry a light.
