El Cerrito Police Blotter January 24th - 30th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

January 24th:

Grand Theft – 2400 block Edwards Ave:

At 10:52 am, an officer responded to the report of a catalytic convertor theft. In between 9 pm, on 01/23/2021 and 8 am, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius.

Vehicle Theft – 11101 San Pablo Ave.

At 7:31 pm, an officer responded to the report of an auto theft. In between 4:00 pm, and 7:30 pm, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1999 green Honda Accord.

January 25th

Auto Burglary – Mira Vista Hotel, 6009 Potrero Ave:

At 7:25 am, an officer responded to the report of an auto burglary. It was determined that on 01/24/2021 at 2325 hours, an unknown suspect pried open the locked utility cabinets on the victim’s pickup truck. The suspect stole a handgun, ammunition, and numerous tools.

Weapon Brandishing – Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave:

At 10:15 am, employees and security asked a suspicious person in the store to leave. The suspect responded by pulling and brandishing a 6” knife. The suspect left the store and fled to the rear of the business on a bicycle.

Warrant Arrest – ECPD, 10900 San Pablo Ave:

At 3:00 pm, a man from Vallejo came to the ECPD with questions about his probation record. It was determined the man was wanted on an ECPD warrant from a 2020 case. He was issued a citation and released.

January 26th

Grand Theft – 900 block Avis Drive:

At 0946 am, an officer responded to the report of a suspicious circumstance after the a vehicle owner located her vehicle on a wooden block. Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from their Toyota Prius.

January 27th

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 3400 block of Lassen St.

At 6:30 pm, an officer located a gold 2005 Toyota Prius that had been reported stolen to Oakland PD on 1/22/21.

January 28th

Shoplifting, Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Denny’s, 11344 San Pablo Ave.:

At 06:44 am, officers responded to a shoplifting in at Chevron in which the male suspect stole food items and then made his way to Denny’s where he began to cause a disturbance. The suspect was in possession of a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamines and he admitted to smoking methamphetamines a couple hours earlier. He was transported to the hospital.

Stolen Vehicle – 6400 block Knott Ave:

At 11:07 am, an officer responded to the report of an auto theft. The victim’s 2018 Toyota Corolla was stolen between 01/27/2021 at 6:45 pm and 01/28/2021 at 11:07 am.

Burglary – 2600 Tamalpais Ave:

At 12:40 pm, an officer responded to the report of an auto burglary. In between 01/27/2021 at noon and 8:15 am, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s garage through an unlocked exterior door. The suspect rifled through a vehicle park in the garage. No property appears to have been stolen.

January 29th

Residential Burglary – 7100 block of Mound Ave.

At 00:24 am, officers were dispatched to a residence after two subjects forced their way into a locked, enclosed porch of the victim’s residence. The suspects removed the victim’s window screens. The keys from the stolen vehicle on Knott Ave were recovered as well as additional property. Officers arrived and arrested a 40-year-old transient man and a 24-year-old Richmond man. After booking, both men were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Vandalism – 2500 Alva Ave:

At 10:24 am, an officer responded to the report of a vandalism. It was determined that in between 0500-0530 hours, an unknown suspect broke a front window in the victim’s house.

Shoplifting – DD’s Discounts, 11555 San Pablo Ave.

At 9:15 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, concealed merchandise, and left without paying. The suspect was described as a black male adult, 20-22 years old, 5’9”, skinny build, wearing a black windbreaker, red skinny jeans, and white shoes. He fled the business in a dark colored sedan.

Shoplifting – DD’s Discounts, 11555 San Pablo Ave.

At 9:30 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, concealed merchandise, and left without paying. The suspect was described as a black male adult, 19-20 years old, 5’8”, skinny build, wearing gray jeans.

January 30th

Battery – Stockton Ave / San Pablo Ave:
At 12:24 pm, Officers responded to a battery in progress. The suspect chased the victim and once he caught the victim, he physically assaulted him. Citizens came to the victim’s aid and detained the suspect until officers arrived. He was arrested and transported to county jail.

Stolen Vehicle – 3200 block Belmont Ave:

At 12:11 pm, an officer responded to the report of an auto theft. In between midnight and 10:00 am, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s white 2005 GMC Savannah box truck.

Domestic Battery – 7400 block of Park Vista:

At 1246 pm, a 21-year-old male suspect and his girlfriend got into an argument. The female victim tried to leave. As she exited the front door, the male suspect physically assaulted her. The suspect left prior to officers’ arrival.

Vandalism – California Check Cashing, 10394 San Pablo Ave:

At 2:15 pm, a customer wanted a replacement pre-paid credit card. The clerk was unable to help the man and he became angry and smashed two point-of-sale ATM machines valued at $700 each. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Vandalism – 10164 San Pablo Ave:

At 3:49 pm, an unknown male suspect broke the front right window of the victim’s vehicle and then fled to an awaiting vehicle. Nothing was taken.

Residential Burglary – 1600 block of Elm St.

Between 11:30 am and 6:30 pm, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence via an unsecured window and stole property.

Shoplifter – Walgreen’s, 11565 San Pablo Ave.

At 7:10 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, filled a large trash bag with cosmetics, and left without paying.
