The Redwood City Police Department received a cyber-tip from the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (SJPD, ICAC) unit who monitors the illegal exchange of electronic images and activity involving children. The tip on the unlawful activity involved a possible sex crime against a juvenile in Redwood City. The Redwood City Police Department’s Street Crimes Suppression Team conducted a lengthy investigation into the SJPD ICAC tip that involved electronic media communication monitoring and evaluation of personal photographs of a pornographic nature sent by the suspect. The investigation revealed that an adult male was attempting to lure a self-declared underage female to a designated location with the intent to engage in sexual activity with her. When the suspect arrived at the arranged location, he was arrested without incident.
With assistance from the San Jose Police Department’s ICAC Unit, Hillsborough Police Department Investigations Bureau, and the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office Inspector’s Unit, a search warrant was served on the suspect’s residence after his arrest. Other electronic devices were seized as a furtherance of the investigation and endeavor to identify additional victims.
