CHPD would like to alert residents of potential threat of Unemployment Insurance Fraud
The Cayuga Heights Police Department would like to alert residents of a rise in the number of Unemployment Insurance Frauds being reported. If you become aware of someone getting unemployment benefits in your name, take these steps directed by The Federal Trade commission:
1. Report the fraud to your employer. Keep a record of who you spoke with and when.
2. Report the fraud to The New York State Department of Labor.
3. Visit IdentityTheft.gov to report the fraud to the FTC and get help with the next important
recovery steps.
4. Review your credit reports often.
The potential threat of Fraud/Identity Theft is present in all different areas; eMail, posted mail, social media, phone calls and more. Secure your accounts by resetting passwords frequently and notify your bank of any suspicious activity.
