Crime Bulletin for the Week of February 1-7, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 02-01-21 at 7:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of First Avenue on a report of a suspicious person who was screaming outside the reporting party’s home and had just kicked the neighbor’s front door. Officers contacted a subject matching the description and determined he was under the influence of methamphetamine. They cited the subject, a 49-year old Daly City resident, for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

On Monday, 02-01-21 at approximately 9:58 p.m., Officer Covarrubias was dispatched to an apartment on the 1000 block of St. Francis Boulevard on a report of a family disturbance. The reporting party said her brother was intoxicated and was being verbally abusive towards her mother. Officer Covarrubias contacted the subject walking away from the residence, and when the officer requested to speak with him, the subject ran away from him. The officer contacted the reporting party who requested no further assistance since her brother left the residence. Officer Covarrubias told the reporting party to call her if her brother returned to the residence. At 11:59 p.m., officers were again dispatched to the apartment as the brother had returned and was banging on the front door. Officer Covarrubias responded and said the subject was trying to force his way inside the residence after his brother opened the door. The officer intervened and grabbed the subject by his upper torso and grasped what he immediately identified to be the barrel of a firearm in the subject’s left chest jacket pocket. The officer attempted to communicate on his portable radio and said the subject used his hand to try to grab the handle of the firearm and pull it away from the officer’s grasp. Officer Covarrubias was able to pull the firearm from the subject’s jacket and observed it was wrapped in a black bandana. The weapon was a Ruger .357 revolver that contained three unspent rounds in a rotating cylinder. Officer Covarrubias arrested the suspect, a 25-year old Daly City resident, for assault on a police officer with a firearm, resisting an executive officer, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On Friday, 02-05-21 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Officer Smith and Officer Arguelles were dispatched to San Jose Avenue and Bepler Street on the report of a naked female chasing a male and asking for his clothes. When Officer Smith arrived, he contacted a female wearing a sweater and sweatpants who had a 2” cut along the left side of her face and a bloody bottom lip. The 18-year old victim said she stepped off mother’s porch on the unit block of Shakespeare Street when an unknown male ran from behind her and punched her using his closed fist to the left side of her face. The victim said during the attack, the suspect took her Louis Vuitton wallet containing $100 and her driver's license. The victim said she ran after the suspect, and she said the suspect grabbed her shirt and attempted to throw her to the ground, causing her shirt to come off. The victim said a male subject drove by, pulled over and gave her a sweatshirt. The victim could only describe the suspect as approximately 5’6” who had on a gray hoodie, black pants, and a ski mask. This investigation is continuing.

This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there.
