SNOW ROUTE ENFORCEMENT TO BEGIN AT 9AM

SNOW ROUTE ENFORCEMENT TO BEGIN AT 9:00am
Good Morning Pekin!

We have been working with the Street Department and we have 3" of snow at this time. The Street Department has requested that we begin enforcement of the SNOW ROUTES only at this time. If you live along a snow route, one should immediately remove your vehicle from the street to avoid receiving a ticket.

Moving forward the weather forecast for this evening is not looking good and we anticipate even more snow. One should anticipate an overnight parking ban going into effect later today through tomorrow to allow for snow removal. Again we will alert the public using NIXLE, Facebook, Twitter and if a city wide ban is implemented it will be on the local news.

Why a city wide ban? Simply put this is to allow the snow equipment the ease of moving up and down the streets without restriction. This will allow the snow team to remove the snow and render the streets safe for passing. This also allows the city the ability to hopefully not strike any vehicles left in the street by accident with the plows or equipment. It allows us to clear the streets faster and limit any inconvenience the bans may cause.

We also ask that the community please do not flood our phone systems with questions about where to park. We have been through this before. One should work with your neighbors and any local businesses to seek permission to park in their driveways and lots until the streets are cleared. We often discuss this and in fact earlier this year posted to think about what alternatives may be for you when these events occur. We will not have an answer for you, only that we will be enforcing the snow routes and city wide ban if issued.
We also strongly encourage one to download the NIXLE app on your phone and sign up to receive texts and email alerts regarding this event. One can turn on and off notifications, but it is an easy way to know where we are at during the event and if we are going to be issuing and enforcing parking bans.

stay warm and safe.
