The National Weather Service, Chicago has issued a severe winter storm warning for the Chicagoland area.

A period of heavy snow fall rates is likely this evening and overnight resulting in dangerous travel across the region, with accumulations possible up to 12 inches.

Dangerous travel conditions are expected overnight and will continue due to low visibilities and snow covered roads with some blowing snow also reducing visibilities. Localized snowfall rates up to around 2 inches per hour are possible.  Consider postponing non-essential travel if possible. If you must travel, bring an emergency kit and be prepared for very challenging travel conditions.
