Significant amounts of snow, sleet, and freezing rain are possible. The precipitation may start as a mix of snow and sleet tonight and change over to freezing rain for most locations by Thursday. Colder air could change the precipitation back to a mix of snow and sleet Thursday night.

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one quarter to one half of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of southwest and west central Virginia and north central and northwest North Carolina.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM EST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the snow and ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
