El Cerrito Crime Blotter: February 7th - 14th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

February 7th:

Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 12:05 pm, an officer repots a group of unknown suspects entered a business, concealed merchandise, then left the business without paying.

Vandalism – Kearney St/Eureka Ave:
At 5:33 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the driver window of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the previous day.

February 8th:

Petty Theft – 500 block of Bonnie Dr:
At 10 pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the glove box. There was no reported loss. The theft occurred sometime during the last 2 weeks.

Trespassing, Vandalism – 6100 block of Potrero Ave:

At 9:40 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a vacant building by forcing open a door. The suspect then used the building to sleep where he was woken up by the owner. The suspect then left on foot.

Battery – 11300 block of San Pablo Ave:

At 9:49 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a business and asked for water. An employee gave a cup of water to the suspect. The suspect then punched the employee and left the business.

Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Ave:

At 11:34 am, a male came to the station to turn himself for a warrant. The male was identified and then cited for the warrant.

Residential Burglary – 500 block of Everett St:

At 1:34 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence by removing a window screen and entering through a window.

February 9th:

Petty Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr.:
At 6pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and told $500 worth of tools. The theft occurred between 9am on the 7th and 7am on the 8th.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 10600 San Pablo Ave:
At 3:05 pm, an officer reported a 25-year-old male assaulted another subject with a knife causing a large laceration on the victim’s hand. The male was located by Richmond Police a few blocks away. The suspect was located by responding officers and then taken into custody. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was booked into MDF.

Grand Theft – 3400 block of Santa Clara:

At 3:06 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.

February 10th:

Assault with A Deadly Weapon – 6009 Potrero Ave (Hotel Mira Vista):
At 6:17 pm, an Officer reported that the victim and the suspect met at the hotel. The two began to argue and a physical confrontation ensued. The suspect stabbed the victim with an unknown object in the leg. The victim sought treatment at a local hospital and reported the incident to ECPD several days later.

Warrant Arrest – Eureka Ave/Liberty St:
At 11:40pm, an Officer reported the arrest of a 60-year-old El Cerrito male for an outstanding warrant for failure to appear from a previous ECPD drug offense arrest. The male was issued a citation and released while on scene.

Vehicle Tampering – 1600 Kearney St:
At 9:41 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and tampered with the steering column but was unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle.

Estes Robbery – El Cerrito Plaza:

At 9:45 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a business, concealed merchandise, and then left without paying. An employee attempted to grab the bag out of the suspect’s possession and a “tug of war” ensued. The employee was able to recover the property and the suspect fled on foot.

Commercial Burglary – 5300 block of Potrero Ave:

At 12:11 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a building and removed sound equipment worth over $10,000.

Stolen Vehicle – 6500 Gladys Ave:

At 3:57 pm, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime during the day.

Attempted Bank Robbery – 9900 block San Pablo Ave:

At 3:26 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a bank, and presented a demand note. The teller went to an employee and told them what was happening. The other employee then called police. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. The suspect did not receive any money before leaving.

February 11th:

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Lexington Ave/Gladys St:
At 1:45am, an Officer located a vehicle that was reported stolen from Daly City.

Grand Theft – 2000 block of Harper St:
At 1:22 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle. The theft occurred sometime overnight.

Shoplifting – 11400 San Pablo Ave:

At 8:53 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a business, concealed merchandise, and then left without paying.

Theft – 6300 block of Fairmount Ave:

At 4:07 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed narcotics from a delivery to a medical facility. The narcotics were likely stolen between the shipment or delivery process.

February 12th:

DUI – Central Ave/Carlson Blvd:
At 01:07am, an officer responded to the area for the report of a male asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle in the middle of the roadway. Upon arrival, the officer determined that the driver, a 23-year old male from Richmond, was driving under the influence of alcohol. The male was placed under arrest, transported to ECPD for booking, and then released with a citation.

Stolen Vehicle – 5800 block of Avila St:
At 8:40 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight. Later in the shift, a neighboring police department located the vehicle and arrested the driver. The vehicle was released to the owner at the scene.

Commercial Burglary – 11100 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:41 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a building by breaking a window. Then the suspect used a saw to cut through the dry wall and entered one of the suites. Once inside the suspect removed two pieces of leveling equipment worth over $3000.

Shoplifting – 11500 San Pablo Ave:
At 9:16 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered a business, concealed merchandise, and then left without paying.

February 13th:

Robbery – 10794 San Pablo Avenue (Marshall’s);
At 6:56 pm officers went to a call where someone had been robbed of their possessions. Officers located the suspect in the parking lot. It was determined the suspect had punched the victim in the face several times causing injuries and then stole property from the victim. He was also found in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested and directly transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting – 11545 San Pablo Avenue (Ross):
At 8:02 pm an officer went to call where a suspect had stolen merchandise and left the store. The suspect was not located.

February 14th:

Brandishing a Deadly Weapon– 6060 Central Avenue (Nation’s):
At 12:51 am officers were sent to Nation’s for the report that a suspect had come inside and brandished a knife, scaring the employees. The first officer arrived and located the subject in the parking lot. The subject threw his knife and attempted to flee. The suspect was arrested, booked, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
