On 02/19/21 at 4:17 a.m., Cloquet Police officers responded to a disturbance at 1535 Sahlman Avenue, the Sahlman Apartments. The complaint reported sounds of yelling and pounding.
Upon arrival, the first officer encountered a man armed with a handgun. The officer was able to subdue to man and secure the handgun.
It was later determined that the suspect fired several shots inside one of the building's apartments, prompting the call to 911. No one was injured in the incident.
The case is still under investigation while the Cloquet Police Department detectives process the scene and interview additional witnesses.
The man, a 53-year-old from Roseville, Minnesota, was later arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of Dangerous Weapons-Intentional Discharge of Firearm That Endangers Safety, one count of 1st Degree Damage to Property, one count of Felon Convicted Crime of Violence - Firearm Violation--all felonies.
Also included was a misdemeanor charge of False Fire Alarms/Tamper w/Fire Alarm System as it is believed this individual set the building's fire alarms off intentionally during this event.

We are incredibly thankful that no one was injured during this event and for the responding officers' courage. It is a grim reminder of the dangers our officers can encounter on any given night.
