A Portion of Downtown City Streets Remain Closed This Weekend

City Encourages Community to Shop and Dine Locally by Walking or Biking

Manhattan Beach, CA (February 19, 2021) – With the two-block closure of Manhattan Avenue in Downtown Manhattan Beach continuing this weekend, the City encourages the community to avoid the traffic by walking and biking to local shopping and dining. Minimizing vehicular traffic allows residents and businesses alike much needed access. Walking and biking is a good form of exercise and allows for mindful activity.

The City has implemented a variety of travel limitations and posted signage to advise of traffic impacts. Here are some tips to remember during the closure:

1.         Walk and bike! The City has many permanent bike parking stands throughout the downtown area.

2.      Use nearby parking lots instead of street parking. Ten parking lots are located in the downtown area.

3.      Metlox Plaza (Lot M) has 450 parking spaces available for public use and everything is within a 5-minute walk.

4.       Take advantage of open seating areas dedicated to pick-up & take-out orders.

5.      Always follow the direction of traffic control officers.

6.      Use the newly-installed scramble crosswalks correctly. Cross in crosswalks only when the walk symbol is on.

7.       No-parking zones are strictly enforced. To pick-up food, use designated loading zones on each side of the street closure on Manhattan Beach Boulevard and 12th street.

8.      Center Place is open for residential and emergency access use only. No parking or stopping is allowed. Access will be controlled during peak times to ensure Center Place is used appropriately.

9.      If using your vehicle, use Highland Avenue, Valley Drive and Ardmore Avenue for north/south travel. Avoid driving on Manhattan Avenue if possible.

The City thanks residents and the business community for their patience. As the community has done throughout the coronavirus pandemic, residents are encouraged to shop and dine local.
