Public Service Days begin March 1

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on your trash day
DEARBORN, Mich. – Public Service Days—and their 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. parking restrictions -- will go into effect for 2021 starting the week of Monday, March 1, 2021. They will last through December 17, 2021.
Public Service Days allow the city to deliver curb-to-curb services, like street sweeping and tree-trimming, to every neighborhood in an effective way. They also permit more efficient trash, recycling and yard waste collection.
The Public Service Day for each neighborhood coincides with that neighborhood’s regular trash collection day.
Once Public Service Days begin for the season on Monday, March 1, 2021, residents should remove their parked vehicle from their neighborhood street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on their regular trash day to avoid a parking ticket.
The Monday trash district should remove their parked vehicles beginning Monday, March 1.
Tuesday’s trash district should get their parked vehicles off the street on Tuesday, March 2.
Wednesday’s trash district should remove their parked vehicles on Wednesday, March 3.
Thursday’s trash district should remove their parked vehicles on Thursday, March 4.
Friday’s trash district should remove their parked vehicles on Friday, March 5.
The pattern continues every week through mid-December.
Residents are reminded to keep their parked vehicles off the streets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., even if their trash is picked up before 4 p.m. Other services may occur on their street until 4 p.m.
Among the services that can be managed better when Public Service Days are in effect for the season are road repairs, and sewer and catch basin maintenance.
“Residents across the city pay for services with their taxes and they deserve to have them delivered in their neighborhoods in a thorough and effective manner,” Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. said. “Keeping parked cars off the streets gives us that chance, so seasonally, we implement Public Service Days.”
Parking restrictions not enforced on certain holiday weeks
Public Service Day parking restrictions are not enforced on holiday weeks during which trash, recycling and yard waste collection is delayed. For 2021, that means that Public Service Days will not be enforced the weeks of Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.
