On Sunday, February 21, 2021 at approximately 1:25 AM Middleton officers performed a traffic stop on North Gammon Road near Fiskdale Circle and the driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. Both fully marked Middleton squad cars were parked on the side of the road with emergency lights activated. After the driver was taken into custody the officers made contact with the passenger. While both officers were up by the stopped vehicle an intoxicated driver crashed into the back of one squad car, which was pushed into the other. There was significant damage to one squad and minimal damage to the other. The arrested subject was in the back seat of the front squad and was later evaluated for injury and released from a local hospital.

We would like to thank the Madison Police Department for their assistance investigating the crash. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 45-year-old male for multiple charges including Operating While Intoxicated with a passenger under 16 years old. This is yet another reminder of the dangers of driving impaired. These are the third and fourth marked Middleton squad cars that have been damaged by intoxicated drivers in just over one year. Luckily there have been no significant injuries in any of these crashes. The Middleton Police Department would like to remind drivers to drink responsibly and have a plan for a safe ride home. Having a plan can help prevent needless injuries and deaths on the roads.
