Kidnapping and Vehicle Theft at Walgreens

On 3/8/21, at approximately 6:30 pm, Morgan Hill Police responded to Walgreens Drug Store located at 745 E. Dunne Ave on a report of a possible kidnapping. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim who stated an unknown suspect stole his truck and his three children were inside the vehicle. The ages of the children were 13 years, 9 years and 8 years old. Prior to the incident, the victim left the truck parked and running near the front of the store while he went inside. As the victim exited the store, he saw his truck driving away on E. Dunne Ave towards Northbound 101. MHPD initiated the investigation and notified surrounding agencies of the kidnapping and stolen vehicle. Soon after the county wide notification went out, San Jose PD reported they had located the three children unharmed near Hellyer Park in San Jose. A FedEx driver found the missing children and called the police. Investigators later learned the suspect dropped the children off and fled the area in the stolen truck.

The children were later reunited with their parents at MHPD. Officers developed suspect information based on video surveillance obtained prior to the incident. During the investigation, MHPD learned the California Highway Patrol was responding to a vehicle collision with injuries in the area of southbound S/R 101 south of Coyote Creek Dr. A truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle had left the roadway and rolled multiple times. CHP and Morgan Hill Officers responded to the scene and located the stolen vehicle and the wanted suspect. 24-year-old, Caleb Holderfield, was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries he sustained in the collision. Holderfield is being charged with three counts of kidnapping and child endangerment, vehicle theft, driving while under the influence and driving while suspended. Holderfield will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
