Funeral services for fallen LCPS Superintendent Karen Trujillo will be private, but the funeral procession will allow for some mourners.

Funeral Procession Planned for Fallen Superintendent

Funeral services for Karen Trujillo, fallen superintendent of Las Cruces Public Schools, will be held Saturday and are private due to pandemic-related capacity restrictions at the church.

However, the funeral procession from Baca’s Funeral Chapel to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary will allow mourners the opportunity to pay their respects from a distance along the route. COVID-19 safety etiquette – wearing face masks and social distancing – is required.

The funeral procession is anticipated to leave Baca’s Funeral Chapel at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 13. The procession will last about 10 minutes and is expected to arrive at Immaculate Heart of Mary at 9:30 a.m. The private rosary and funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The funeral procession will leave Baca’s Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Rd., at 9:20 a.m. and follow this route:

• West on Boutz Road.
• North on Main Street.
• East on Idaho Avenue.
• North on Mesquite Street.
• East on California Avenue to Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina St.

Those who wish to pay their respects along the funeral procession route may do so following COVID-19 safety etiquette of wearing masks, social distancing and limiting groups to five persons or less. Those who pay their respects curbside are asked to do so safely and remain on the sidewalk, where there is one. Mourners are asked to refrain from blocking private driveways or interfering with private properties along the way. Participants should not stand or park on roadways, not stand on the medians and refrain from interfering with any traffic. Again, all COVID-19 safety protocols must be observed.

Private, graveside burial services for Trujillo will be held Monday so there will be no formal escort following Saturday’s funeral mass.

For those who wish to join Trujillo’s funeral services virtually, the rosary and funeral mass will be streamed live courtesy the Las Cruces Public Schools at www.livestream.com/lcpstv.
