The Ripon Police Department has received several reports of unknown individuals involved in telephone scam operations where the scammer(s) impersonate Ripon Police Officers.  The scammer(s) use fraudulent methods to show the Ripon Police Department telephone number on Caller ID.  The callers usually identify themselves as Police Officers, and then tell the victim they have a warrant issued, and request payment to resolve the matter.  We have received reports from victims in several California cities being targeted.  These calls are not originating from and are in no way connected to the Ripon Police Department.
 
If you receive one of these calls, do not provide the caller with any information, and hang up.  Ripon Police Officers will never attempt to take payment for a warrant or any other matter over the telephone.  The best response is to simply hang-up.
