El Cerrito Police Department Blotter: February 28th - March 6th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

February 28:

Shoplifting - 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):

At 8:13 am, an officer responded to the report of unknown suspect filling up garbage bags full of property and then fleeing the store without paying.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s):

At 8:37 pm, while an officer was driving through the parking lot an employee from Walgreen’s flagged down the officer and reported that a suspect who was walking through the parking lot had just stolen items from Walgreen’s. The officer stopped the suspect and recovered stolen property that he had in his possession. The subject was placed under citizen’s arrest by the Walgreen’s employee. The suspect was also found to have a warrant for his arrest issued from San Luis Obispo County. He was issued a citation for the warrant as well and then released from the scene.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Lexington Ave. / Potrero Ave:

At 10:45 pm, an officer located an unoccupied stolen vehicle parked on Lexington Avenue near Potrero Avenue. The officer called the owner of the vehicle and they came to this location and took possession of their vehicle.

March 1:

Vandalism – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:

At 8:34 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged the passenger side windows of a vehicle using a hammer. The incident occurred sometime overnight.

Commercial Burglary – 10650 San Pablo Ave. (CVS):

At 3:14 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business sometime overnight on February 23. The suspect then removed household products and a case of beer.

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):

At 1549 hours, an officer was flagged down by employees regarding a shoplifting that just occurred. The suspect was detained nearby. He was placed under citizen arrest, issued a citation and released at the scene.

Stolen Vehicle – 1400 block of Elm Street:
An officer went to the call of a reported stolen vehicle. When they arrived and spoke to the victim, they were told that a motorcycle had been stolen from in front of a home between February 26th and March 1st.

March 2:

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s):
At 9:24 am, an officer responded to the report of a shoplifting that just occurred. An unknown subject entered the business and concealed merchandise in two large bags. The suspect then left without paying.

Warrant Arrest – 6800 block of Glen Mawr Ave:

At 3:54 pm, officers were dispatched to three subjects who appeared to be casing the neighborhood. Officers arrived in the area and located the group. During the investigation, one of the subjects had an outstanding warrant. During booking, investigators recognized the suspect as the person responsible for a residential burglary which occurred in 2020 on Glen Mawr Ave.

Driving Under the Influence – Carlson Blvd / Lassen Street:

At 10:40 pm, an officer pulled over a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. After an investigation it was determined that the driver was under the influence and was placed under arrest and booked at ECPD. After booking, the driver was released to a sober family member.

March 3:

Warrant Arrest – BART path at Hills Street:

At 12:39 am, an officer contacted a subject who had started a small campfire of the BART path. The officer discovered the subject had three warrants for their arrest. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue / Hill Street:

At 4:02 am an officer pulled over a vehicle for a vehicle code violation and discovered the driver had a warrant for their arrest issued by San Pablo PD. The driver was issued a citation for the warrant and released from the scene.

Burglary – 3300 block of Carlson Boulevard:

At 7:32 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry into a detached garage and removed a bicycle. The incident occurred sometime overnight.

Burglary – 3000 block of San Mateo St:

At 12:03 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry into a detached garage and stole several power tools. The incident occurred sometime overnight.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s):

At 8:50 pm, an officer responded to the report of a shoplifting that just occurred. When an officer arrived, they found the suspect walking away from the store through the parking lot and stopped him. The stolen merchandise was recovered from him and given back to Walgreen’s. The subject was placed under citizen’s arrest by a Walgreen’s employee. The officer issued the suspect a citation for the theft and she was released from the scene.

March 4:

Robbery – 11252 San Pablo Avenue:

At 7:31 pm, officers were dispatched for the report of a Robbery that had occurred when the victim left his bicycle parked out in front of a business and went inside. An unknown subject stole the bicycle. When the victim attempted to retrieve the bike, the suspect physically attacked them.

False identity to Police Officer – BART path at Stockton Avenue:

At approximately 7:40 pm, while an officer was looking for the suspect in the above robbery, they observed a subject who matched the description provided by the victim. The officer stopped the subject and the subject provided false information about their identity. The officer was able to determine the identity of the subject, who was on parole. The subject was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released from the station.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s):

At 8:07 pm an officer went to a call where someone was reported as stealing items from the store. When the officer arrived, they found the suspect walking away from the store through the parking lot and stopped her. The stolen merchandise was recovered from her bag and given back to Walgreen’s. The subject was placed under citizen’s arrest by a Walgreen’s employee. The officer issued the suspect a citation for the theft and she was released from the scene.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Belmont Avenue near Central Avenue:

At 5:27 am, an officer located a vehicle had been reported stolen from Sonoma County.

March 5:

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreen’s parking lot:

At 11:17 pm an officer located a van taken in a carjacking in Oakland.

March 6:

Grand Theft – 3200 block of Carlson Blvd:

At 1:14 am an officer was sent to a call where the victim’s catalytic converter had just been stolen from their vehicle.

Driving Under the Influence – Potrero Avenue near San Pablo Avenue:

At 1:45 am, an officer pulled over a vehicle for a vehicle code violation and after an investigation determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then released to a sober friend.

Battery – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:

At 3:05 pm, an officer reports two subjects got into a struggle over a pair of garden sheers during a verbal argument. During the struggle, one party suffered a small cut on the forearm. Neither party sought prosecution.

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue at Potrero Avenue:

At 11:49 pm, an officer pulled over a vehicle for driving the wrong way on San Pablo Avenue. After an investigation they determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then released to a sober friend.
