Crime Alert Bulletin for the Week of March 1-7, 2021
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Tuesday, 03-02-21 at approximately 9:15 p.m., a 28-year old San Francisco resident was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol after he was involved in a single vehicle rollover collision in the area of Hickey Boulevard/Imperial Way. The driver was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, and a complaint is sought for driving under the influence.
On Wednesday, 03-03-21 at 9:15 p.m., subsequent to a traffic stop in the area of Junipero Serra Boulevard and Citrus Avenue by Officer Risslen, a 25-year old Antioch resident was cited for possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy) for sales, transportation of a controlled substance (ecstasy), possession of marijuana for sales, possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy), possession of more than 28.5 grams of marijuana, and possession of a burglary tool (window punch).
On Thursday, 03-04-21 at 7:52 p.m., Officer Cain and Officer Brenes were dispatched to the Safeway store on a report of a shoplifter who used pepper spray on two security guards after the shoplifter was confronted for stealing items. The reporting party said the suspect left the store with the merchandise. The suspect was described as a white male in his 40’s, 5’6”, wearing a black long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, a knee brace on his left knee and carrying a light blue backpack. The Fire Department and paramedics checked out two employees and treated them for exposure.
On Friday, 03-05-21 at 12:36 p.m., an 87-year old San Francisco resident was the victim of cruelty to an elder via push by an unknown suspect while he was in line at the Panda Express restaurant. The victim sustained injuries to his head and was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a contusion and neck pain. Officer Chittenden reviewed the video footage from inside the restaurant and saw the victim standing near the counter looking at the food selection. At one point, he moved closer to a male ahead of him in line. The male in line appeared to react to the victim getting closer to him and appeared to confront him by pointing at him and shoving the victim. The victim then stumbled back, lost his footing, fell, and hit the store window with his back and head. The suspect appeared to be a white or Hispanic male, 5’8”, 180 lbs., wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, black shoes, and a black face mask. This investigation is continuing.
On Friday, 03-05-21 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Officer Abuan was dispatched to Nordstrom Rack on a report of a male who was using a knife while attempting to flee from loss prevention officers. When Officer Abuan arrived at the store, he saw the subject was already detained by security, and security requested that the subject be arrested for shoplifting and using a knife on them. The reporting party told the officer that the subject walked around the store for approximately one hour and tried to return multiple items at the front register but was rejected by the cashier. The reporting party said the subject grabbed all of the merchandise from the counter and began walking out of the store with the merchandise. The reporting party attempted to contact the subject, asking him for the receipt, and he said the subject told him he had a receipt and continued to walk towards the Target store. Another security guard joined in to follow the subject, and they said the subject pulled out a small pocketknife, told them to leave him alone, and started running towards the Target parking lot. Officer Abuan arrested the subject, a 36-year old San Francisco resident, for robbery and possession of a methamphetamine.
On Saturday, 03-06-21 at 1:12 a.m., a 43-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic collision on the 2600 block of Bayshore Boulevard.
On Saturday, 03-06-21 at 6:21 a.m., Officer Tualaulelei and other officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Templeton Avenue on a report of a male in the rear alley who was using a crowbar to pry into a garage. The reporting party gave a description of the vehicle associated with the subject. The officers approached the area on foot and saw a silver Jeep backed into the rear of the residence, parallel to the detached garage. The vehicle was still running, and Officer Tualaulelei saw a blanket covering the passenger seat and saw a female under the blanket, and he saw a male in the driver’s seat. Both subjects ignored the officer’s presence, and the driver refused to turn off the vehicle. Thinking there was a language barrier, Officer Jackson-Berrios, who speaks Spanish, was asked to speak with the driver. The driver still did not listen, and the female passenger tried to cover herself up with the blanket. The driver then reversed the vehicle and then accelerated forward at a high rate of speed to flee from the officers. While the driver was doing this, he nearly hit Officer Jackson-Berrios and Officer Lajoie. Officer Tualaulelei began to pursue the vehicle, and the suspect drove through the alley, turned into a backyard on the unit block of Alexander Avenue, destroyed 30-40 feet of fencing, and came to rest on the hillside. Both subjects exited the vehicle and fled. Both subjects attempted to climb over a neighboring fence, and the male was able to get over the fence, but the female was unable to climb over the fence and was quickly detained. The male subject attempted to break into a roof skylight of an occupied residence on the unit block of Alexander Avenue but was unsuccessful. The subject continued to flee and then forced his way into a rear lower unit of another occupied residence on the 600 block of Templeton Avenue where he was taken into custody. The male subject, a 26-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for vehicle theft (the Jeep was stolen in San Francisco), receiving stolen property, burglary, attempted burglary, robbery, attempted robbery, and hit and run. The female, a 31-year old San Francisco resident, was cited for resisting arrest.
On Sunday, 03-07-21 at 9:00 a.m., Officer Abuan was dispatched to the 100 block of Crocker Avenue on a report of a male who was attempting to break into vehicles and enter the reporting party’s residence. Officer Abuan arrived and saw a subject matching the description standing in front of the reporting party’s residence. The subject, a 17-year old Daly City resident, was subsequently arrested for attempted burglary, vandalism, providing false identification, carrying a concealed dagger, and committing an adult offence by a juvenile. Due to COVID-19 protocol, the Youth Service Center did not allow the subject to be booked, and a complaint is forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

Nextdoor.com
Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
