Raul Mercado, a felony probationer, was arrested for felon in possession of a stolen firearm

SUSPECT: Raul Mercado, 19-year-old resident of Riverside
SUMMARY:
On March 11, 2021 at 8:15 p.m. Deputy Ancona made a traffic enforcement stop on a silver Chevrolet Tahoe with no license plates. Raul Mercado, a passenger, was found to be on active felony probation for possession of a firearm. During a probation compliance check of Mercado, he was found in possession of a backpack which contained a complete lower receiver to an AR-15 rifle along with a loaded 30-round high capacity rifle magazine for an AR-15.
A record check of the lower receiver showed the AR-15 was stolen in 2016 from the City of Orange. Mercado is also a convicted felon and prohibited from owning any firearms or possessing any ammunition. Mercado was arrested and booked into jail at Central Detention Center.
