Armed Subject at Kelly Brewing Company Arrested
On March 15th, at approximately 7:30 pm, Morgan Hill Police Officers responded to 70 E. Fourth St (Kelly Brewing Company) on a report of a subject in the business armed with a hatchet causing a disturbance. Officers responded to the scene and learned from an employee that an unknown male entered the business and started yelling and destroying property with a hatchet. The employee and several other patrons were able to escape without being harmed and called the police. The initial responding officer located the suspect inside the business and gave him commands to stop and to deescalate the situation. The suspect began throwing furniture at the officer. The officer utilized a department issued less-lethal projectile to prevent the suspect from assaulting him or escaping into the busy downtown.
The agitated suspect retreated into the business and barricaded himself in a small office. Additional officers arrived on scene and they initiated negotiations with the subject. The suspect was not compliant and continued to damage property. MHPD Officer Pires and his K-9 Basco and arrived at the scene and the suspect ultimately surrendered to police without further incident. 50-year-old, Jeorg Lerand, was booked into County Jail on felony vandalism, resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon. It is unknown why Lerand entered the business and destroyed the property. No one was seriously injured during the incident.
