Crime Alert Bulletin for the Week of March 8-14, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 03-10-21 at 8:02 p.m., Officer Fulmore was on patrol in the area of Washington Street and Sullivan Avenue and saw a pedestrian walking behind two 5’ tall bushes that had a gap between them. The officer saw the subject peeking out towards his patrol vehicle and was moving something around the bush. Officer Fulmore exited his vehicle and said the subject started walking away from the bushes and removed latex gloves from his hands and threw them on the ground. The officer asked the subject what he was doing, and the subject said he was taking out the trash. The officer did not see any trash bags or dumpsters near the area where he was walking. Officer Fulmore asked the subject why he was hiding, and he said he was scared of getting a littering ticket. The officer advised the subject not to litter, and he let the 41-year old subject return to his nearby residence. The officer walked over to the bushes and noticed a black box near a bush. The officer opened the box and found a .45 caliber Colt 1911 handgun and six empty .45 magazines. The officer went to the subject’s residence and subsequently arrested him for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Friday, 03-12-21 at approximately 2:55 p.m., a 66-year old Daly City resident was walking home from work from the BART station on the unit block of Vista Grande Avenue when an unknown male came up behind her and grabbed her purse from her, pulled it off and got into an awaiting silver Ford Fusion with tinted windows. The vehicle then took off southbound on Mission Street. The victim described the suspect as a black male in his 30’s, approximately 5’11” to 6’1” tall, skinny, wearing unknown clothing. The victim was not physically harmed, and this investigation is continuing.

On Friday, 03-12-21 at approximately 5:25 p.m., Officer Abuan was dispatched to the 600 block of Lisbon Street on report of a robbery involving a firearm. The 62-year old victim said she had left her work at Seton Hospital and went to the Western Union on Mission Street at about 4:45 p.m. The victim said after she withdrew money, she drove to her home on Lisbon Street and parked her vehicle in the driveway. The victim exited her vehicle and proceeded to her front door. While attempting to open the front door, the victim said she heard someone running from behind her without saying anything, and then she immediately felt a violent tug to her left shoulder and realized someone was trying to pull her backpack away from her. The victim said she tried to pull on the backpack to prevent the suspect from taking it when she noticed the suspect was holding a black handgun. The victim said the suspect pulled on the backpack with enough force to drag her, and then she fell forward on the pavement. The victim described the suspect a Hispanic or Filipino male in his 30’s, wearing a black/gray hoodie, dark pants, and black shoes. The victim said the suspect left in a brown vehicle. The victim sustained mild injuries to her left temple, a possible broken finger and soreness to her hip. This investigation is continuing.

On Sunday, 03-14-21 at approximately 4:06 p.m., a 67-year old Daly City resident was walking home with two bags from the Ranch 99 store when an unknown subject came up to her and ripped the two bags out of her hand as she was crossing the street at Baldwin Avenue and Westmoor Avenue. The victim described the suspect as a black male with a slim build who got into a silver Nissan Sentra. The victim suffered soreness to her hand. This investigation is continuing.

Robberies

There were five robberies during the past week.

On Wednesday, 03-10-21 at approximately 2:18 p.m., two males and one female walked into the DSW Store and filled three empty garbage bags with approximately $3,000 worth of shoes. An employee confronted the subjects and was threatened by one subject. The subjects all left the store in a silver Volkswagen Jetta. The first suspect was described as a black male, 30 years old, 6’0”, average build, wearing a red beanie, blue denim jacket, blue jeans, and no face mask. The second suspect was described as a 30-year old black male, 5’10”, average build, bald, wearing all black clothing and a face mask. The third suspect was described as a 30-year old black female, 6’0”, average build, wearing a black hat, multicolored jacket, dark pants, and a face mask. The employee was not injured, and this case is under investigation.

On Wednesday, 03-14-21 at approximately 4:06 p.m., a 67-year old Daly City resident was walking home with two bags from the Ranch 99 store when an unknown subject came up to her and ripped the two bags out of her hand as she was crossing the street at Baldwin Avenue and Westmoor Avenue. On Wednesday, 03-10-21 at 4:08 p.m., a 51-year old Daly City resident was walking home on John Daly Boulevard after getting off the bus at the BART station when she noticed a gray Volkswagen sedan approaching her from the front—near the area of the Boulevard Restaurant. A passenger got out of the vehicle and tackled the victim to the ground. A second subject got out of the vehicle and punched the victim four times in the back of her head. The suspects attempted to take the victim’s phone which was on a lanyard around her neck, and they took her purse. The suspects got back into the vehicle, and it went southbound onto Highway 280. The victim described the first suspect as a black male in his early to mid-20’s, wearing all dark clothing. Because the victim appeared to have a small laceration on her finger and was grabbing one of her knees, the Daly City Fire Department and paramedics checked out the victim’s injuries. This investigation is continuing.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
