MOFD Prescribed Burn 3/19 & 20/21
Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will be conducting a prescribed fire project in the community open space area above Dalewood Drive, Yarrow Valley Lane and Moss Bridge Lane this Friday and Saturday. The project is a continuation of the wildfire mitigation work that has been done by residents in the area over the past year.
Fire Crews will begin burning the 17+/- piles of cut and stacked material each day at approximately 10:00 AM and should be finished no later than 5:00 PM. A small amount of material may smoke and smolder overnight. Small amounts of lingering smoke should not be cause for alarm as the piles are surrounded by moist, green grass that will not allow fire to move away from the pile. Safety is our number one priority. The project has been set up to take advantage of the current cool, wet weather and fuel conditions and will be executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. We have been working with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing of the burns will minimize smoke impacts to homes and smoke-sensitive sites in the area. If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled. Residents in the Sleepy Hollow and Orinda View neighborhoods may see or smell smoke. Closing exterior doors and windows during the day will help to keep smoke from entering homes. Signs cautioning residents about firefighters and equipment in the area will be posted on Dalewood Drive, Orinda View and Sundown Terrace. We will continue to keep residents informed of any changes to the plan via Nextdoor, the Orinda Police Department's Nixle notifications and the MOFD Social Media sites.
