Community Information: recent police activity and search for robbery suspect

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Around 12:10 p.m. today, March 19, 2021, the Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to the area of Placentia Avenue and Victoria Street to search for a suspect reported to have just committed a robbery near the 2100 block of Placentia Avenue. Officers saw the suspect fleeing northbound on foot, chased after him, and a perimeter was set up.

Out of an abundance of caution, nearby schools including Estancia High School, Wilson Elementary, and Christian Lutheran School were advised to shelter in place.

The suspect was not located and at approximately 1:10 p.m., the perimeter was taken down and schools were advised that the shelter in place was lifted.

It was later determined that there was no weapon involved in this incident and CMPD believes there is no threat to public safety.

CMPD will continue to investigate this incident and anyone with relevant information or who witnessed the robbery is asked to contact the Investigative Services Bureau at 714-754-5205.
