On March 21, 2021, at approximately 1:34 am, West Covina Police Department responded to a call regarding a burglary in progress in the area of Azusa Avenue and Rowland Avenue. Two suspects used chains to forcibly steal an ATM and fled the location. Officers arrived to the scene and immediately noticed that one standalone ATM was missing. Officers were able to follow a debris field to locate the stolen ATM and the commercial flatbed truck used; both had been abandoned in a local residential area. While continuing to search the area, officers located a getaway vehicle, occupied by the two suspects, and attempted to stop it. However, the vehicle failed to yield and a short pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended in the area of South Duggan Avenue, in the city of Azusa, when the vehicle collided into a fence. The driver and passenger fled on foot but were quickly located and taken into custody.
The ATM and all currency was recovered.
The suspects, both residents of San Bernardino, were arrested. Charles Fettel, 35, and Raymond Loftin, 36, were booked for burglary and grand theft. Bail for Fettel is currently set at $75,000.00. Loftin is being held on a no-bail warrant.
