Advisory

Prescribed Fire Project Continues on Wednesday, 3/24/21 Near Sleepy Hollow

Today, March 24th, MOFD firefighters will try again to complete the Sleepy Hollow pile burning project. The project is a continuation of the wildfire mitigation work that has been done by residents in the area over the past year.

Fire Crews will begin burning the remaining 7+/- piles of cut and stacked material at approximately 10:00 AM and should be finished no later than 5:00 PM. A small amount of material may smoke and smolder overnight. Small amounts of lingering smoke should not be cause for alarm as the piles are surrounded by moist, green grass. Safety is our number one priority!

The project has been set up to take advantage of cool weather and moist fuel conditions. It will be executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. We will continue to work with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the National Weather Service to ensure the size and timing of the project will minimize smoke impacts to homes and smoke-sensitive sites in the area.

If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled.
