Advisory

Information regarding a phone scam targeting Burr Ridge Residents.

Today the Burr Ridge Police Department received a report of a phone scam targeting Burr Ridge Residents. The reporting party said they received a call from an individual purporting to be first from a Federal Law Enforcement Agency, then the Burr Ridge Chief of Police. The caller asked for personal identifying information.

The Burr Ridge Police Department does not cold call any residents requesting personal identifying information.

If you receive a call like this, do not provide any information to the caller and hang-up. If you wish, you may make a report with the police department. Please note the date and time you received the call, and the phone number of the caller. You may report in person at our station, or call to have an officer respond.

These callers can sound very convincing, and may use real names of employees. They may "spoof" real phone numbers that will appear legitimate if you search for them on the internet.

Please share this message with any family member, friend, and neighbor who might not receive these messages.

Thank you
