Police ID Victim in Sunday Shooting

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate Sunday’s fatal shooting that claimed the life of 37-year-old Ramon Archuleta.

About 1 a.m. Sunday, March 28, Las Cruces police were dispatched to conduct a welfare check on a man at 1907 W. Picacho Ave. Officers arrived to find the man, later identified as Ramon Archuleta, on the ground, outside an apartment and unresponsive. Police determined Archuleta suffered at least one gunshot wound and was declared deceased on scene.

Investigators learned that Archuleta got into a physical confrontation with a man inside an apartment. The man pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round at Archuleta who stumbled out of the apartment and fell to the ground.

Police had reason to believe the suspect fled to a nearby apartment. Police surrounded the apartment and called out LCPD’s SWAT team to enter, but the suspect was not located inside.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect remains outstanding at this time.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795.
