Prescribed Fire Friday- April 2 in the Open Space Area Behind Wilder
Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will be conducting another prescribed fire project in the open space area behind the Wilder Development today. The project is a continuation of the wildfire mitigation work done in the area over the past year. Fire Crews will begin burning the 8 +/- piles of cut and stacked material at approximately 10:00 AM .
The project should be completed no later than 3:00 PM. Safety is our number one priority. The project has been set up to take advantage of the current cool spring weather and fuel conditions and will be executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. The Fire District is working with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing of the burn will minimize smoke impacts to homes and other smoke-sensitive sites in the area. If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled.
Residents in the area may see or smell smoke. Closing exterior doors and windows during the day will help to keep smoke from entering homes. Signs cautioning residents about firefighters and equipment in the area will be posted in the area. The Fire District will continue to keep residents informed of any changes to the plan via Nextdoor, the Orinda Police Department's Nixle feed and the MOFD Social Media sites.
