E Walnut ST Stabbing/Homicide

Green Bay: On Sunday, April 4, 2021 at 5:16 pm officers from the Green Bay Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call at East Mason Street at Baird Street for a 25 year old male in critical condition suffering from a stab wound. Officers investigating the incident determined that the stabbing occurred in the parking lot of 610 East Walnut Street.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the hospital life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced deceased at approximately 3:15 am on Monday April 5th.

Green Bay Police Department detectives and forensic personnel were called to the scene and began the investigation immediately after the stabbing occurred. The investigation identified the suspect believed to be responsible for the stabbing as Joseph E. Olvera, a 43 year old resident of Green Bay.

Green Bay police officers and investigators have worked continuously since the stabbing occurred to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident and locate the suspect. Several interviews were conducted, forensic evidence was obtained, and members of the police department searched for the suspect. Mr. Olvera was located by police officers at around 1:00 pm on April 5th in a residence in the 1500 block of Charles ST and he was taken into custody. The Suspect Olvera is being held at the Brown County jail, and charges will be presented to the Brown County District Attorney’s office as soon as practicable.

Identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

“I am proud of the great work our Green Bay Police team did in locating and taking this homicide suspect into custody,” said Green bay Police Chief Andrew Smith. “The message is clear-if you commit a crime in Green Bay we will find you and hold you accountable for what you have done.”
