Investigators Arrest Man In Unprovoked Shooting.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes and Major Offender’s unit have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man for an unprovoked shooting that left an 11-year-old battling her injuries. The man, Max Meyers (04/15/98) was arrested without incident from his residence and is currently in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Joint Processing Center on a $115,000 bond. On Saturday, March 27, 2021, at around 12:20 a.m., the girl was with her family and friends traveling in a late model Econo-line van on the Grand Parkway at HWY 249 after attending a youth dance earlier that evening. As the families van was entering the 99 Grand Parkway entrance, a Ford F150 truck driven by Meyers, fired two gunshots in the direction of the families vehicle. A projectile struck the complainant in the hip area and abdomen. An alert juvenile passenger quickly dialed 911 as the 11-year-olds father found a safe area to stop their vehicle. The complainant was transported to a nearby hospital, but was then transferred to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center due to the severity of her injuries. Investigators were able to obtain video surveillance from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT) and after numerous hours of reviewing, a truck matching the description from witnesses was found. Investigators, along with members of the District 5 Crime Reduction Unit personnel conducted an interview with Meyers on Monday April 5, 2021, and he confessed to shooting at the van as he passed it that evening. A search of his apartment and vehicle were conducted. A handgun was recovered from the residence, and a spent 9mm shell casing was located in the back cargo area of his truck. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office were contacted and prosecutors accepted the charge of injury to a child with serious bodily injury a first degree felony and deadly conduct a third degree felony
