Mayor's Weekly Message

Mayor’s Message of April 9, 2021

This is West Caldwell Mayor Joe Tempesta with a public service announcement.

West Caldwell is planning to have our pools open again this summer as well as host our summer concert series. Applications to join the pools are available on our website at www.westcaldwell.com as well as available in the lobby of town hall. Discounted Early bird registrations are being accepted through April 30. We are in full swing with our Spring recreation programs for our children and we also plan on having our summer playground and tot lot programs. Of course, all of this may be subject to change if the NJ State Department of Health guides us differently.

Please be advised the West Caldwell Health Department has informed us as of today Friday, April 9, 2021 we currently have nineteen (19) new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Caldwell’s general population since last week.

Of the 19 new confirmed cases, all individuals have already recovered.  Since the beginning of the Pandemic, we have had a total of 682 cases, of which, we have had 14 citizens pass away in our general population. Thankfully, we have had 663 cases closed whereby those citizens are recovered and are no longer quarantined.

In our two skilled nursing facilities combined we have no current COVID-19 cases in Crane’s Mill and Hackensack Meridian Health WC Care Center.

The number of vaccinations given to West Caldwell residents is approaching nearly 6,500 with the breakdown of over 4,000 first vaccination shots and nearly 2,500 second shots.  We remain confident that over 50% of our residents will have been vaccinated on or about May 1st.

We encourage all of you to continue the practice of social distancing, wash your hands often, and wear masks whenever possible. And please try and limit house gatherings indoors to under 10 people.

I also ask that you continue to join me in thanking all our first responders and teachers. I also thank you for continuing to patronize our restaurants and retail stores.
All eligible individuals may register for the COVID vaccine through Essex County by visiting essexcovid.org or by calling 973-877-8456. Appointments have been available most mornings between the hours of 8:00 am and 9:00 am.

All residents may also preregister for the vaccination through the State of New Jersey by visiting covidvaccine.nj.gov – thank you.
