Single Vehicle Crash Sends 2 to Hospital
 
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 04/11/2021 at approximately 0130 hours, his office was called to investigate a crash involving a single motor vehicle. The crash occurred on M51 near Crystal Springs St, Pokagon Township, Cass County Michigan.

Upon investigation it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, 34 year old Niles resident Nicole Brant, was travelling southbound with her 9 year old son, Caden Zimmerman, on M51 near Crystal Springs St, when her vehicle left the road, went into the embankment, then overturned.  Caden was thrown from the vehicle, and Nicole was extricated by first responders on scene.  Nicole was transported by SMACS Ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Caden was treated by Pride Care Ambulance until Med Flight arrived on scene, and was then flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is unknown if intoxicating substances are a factor, and it is believed that neither were wearing seat belts.

This crash remains under investigation.
