Joshua Smith was arrested for shooting in a reckless manner, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition

INCIDENT: Penal Code 246.3(a)-Shooting in a Reckless Manner, Penal Code 29800(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Penale Code 30305(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of Ammunition
 
LOCATION: 25500 block of Amanda Street Highland
 
SUSPECT(S): Joshua Smith, 40 years of age, resident of Highland
 
 
SUMMARY: On Friday, April 2, 2021, at approximately 10:26 P.M., Highland Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 25500 block of Amanda Street in Highland for a report of a shooting. Deputies arrived and discovered a black four-door sedan had driven by a residence and fired two rounds. Through the course of their investigation, deputies were able to positively identify the suspect as Joshua Smith. Smith is currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for a previous violation of Penal Code 29800(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
 
On Monday, April 12, 2021, Highland Sheriff's Deputies were conducting proactive patrol in the area of 3rd Street and Del Rosa Drive. During their patrol, deputies observed a suspicious vehicle, a black Nissan Armada, traveling through the area. When the vehicle passed the Sheriff's patrol vehicle, the driver of the Nissan sped away and made a rapid series of turns through the residential neighborhood. A loaded .22 caliber handgun was thrown from the vehicle. Deputies located the Armada and contacted Joshua Smith. Smith was detained and a search warrant was served at Smith's residence. Smith was arrested for his previous violation of Penal Code 246.3(a), as well as Penal Code 29800(a)(1) and Penal Code 30305(a)(1). Smith was booked into custody at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, CA.
