San Leandro Police Arrest Two on Robbery and Burglary Crimes at Bank Parking Lots.

On March 18th, 2021, at 2:40 pm, SLPD responded to a robbery in the Bank of America parking lot located at 1925 Marina Boulevard.  An adult Asian victim stated that an adult Black male smashed her vehicle window and stole her purse while the victim was inside her car.  The victim provided a getaway vehicle description, along with a license plate.

Detectives obtained a search warrant on the getaway vehicle while increasing patrols through marked and covert cars at shopping centers and banks.

On April 5th at 12:40 pm, SLPD Detectives in covert operation observed the same suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Chase Bank, located at 1320 Fairmont Drive.  Detectives observed a suspect burglarize a parked car in the bank lot.

San Leandro Police patrol officers attempted to stop the suspects, which lead them in a vehicle pursuit, concluding a mile away after the suspect vehicle became disabled.

Officers were able to arrest the driver, Kevon Mitchel, a 19-year-old male from Oakley, and the passenger, Devonyae McClay, a 19-year-old male from Antioch.  Evidence related to the Chase Bank burglary and a handgun, along with a 32 round magazine, was recovered from the vehicle.

Both suspects were booked for robbery, burglary, eluding officers, and weapons charges, related to Bank of America and Chase Bank crimes.

“We deployed our officers in uniform and covert operations where there was a need and where their presence would help in capturing these suspects.  This case is an example of the hard work put in by the officers in capturing the suspects,” said Lieutenant Ali Khan.

The police department continues to deploy additional staff to suppress further crimes.
