El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: April 2nd - April 11th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 2nd
Residential Burglary – 8500 block of Terrace Dr:
An officer reported two unknown suspects entered a vacant residence and stole several electronic items from the interior. The crime occurred sometime overnight on April 1.

Theft – 5800 block of Cutting Blvd:
At 5:26 pm, an officer reported the arrest of a 42-year-old female from Oakland. The female entered a business, placed merchandise into a shopping cart, and then attempted to leave without paying. When an employee attempted to stop her, she attempted to hit the employee with the cart. The female was located a short distance away and placed under arrest.

Recovered Stolen vehicle – 1751 Eastshore Blvd:
At 6:31 PM an officer located an unoccupied stolen vehicle that was reported stolen to the San Pablo Police Department. 

April 3rd

Vandalism – 11344 San Pablo Avenue (Denny’s):
At 2:40 am, an officer was sent to the business for the report that a suspect had come inside and pushed the monitors for the cash registers off of the counter causing them to break. 

Warrant Arrest – 10600 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 9:33 pm an officer responded for the report of a vehicle collision.  The officer investigated the collision and then learned one of the drivers had a warrant for his arrest.  The person was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

April 4th  
Warrant Arrest – Arlington Blvd. at Madera Circle:
An officer pulled over a vehicle and found that the driver had a warrant for their arrest issued from Marin County.  The driver was issued a citation for the warrant and released at the scene. 

April 5th
No reportable events.

April 6th
Unauthorized Use of an Access Card – Bank of the West 11100 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:10 am, an officer responded to investigate a report of the victim’s bank card being used to withdraw money without their permission.

Possession of Methamphetamines and Violation of a Restraining Order– School St. / S. 55th St. 
At 10:28 am, during a suspicious vehicle check, an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 28-year-old male from Marin, for violating a restraining order.  During a search, the officer located methamphetamines and a meth pipe in the male’s possession.  The male was placed under arrested and released on a citation. 

Petty Theft – Auto Import Sales 11280 San Pablo Ave
At 3:21 pm, officers responded to a report of a male who had stolen a key to one of the cars on the lot for sale. The male was not located.

Shoplifting– Ross 2000 El Cerrito Plaza 
At 4:08 pm, an El Cerrito police officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of 58-year-old male from San Francisco after he entered the store, filled a shopping cart with merchandise, and left without paying.  The male was released on a citation at the scene.   

Grand Theft– CVS 670 El Cerrito Plaza. 
At 5:06 pm, after being released on a citation for shoplifting at Ross in the El Cerrito Plaza, the same 58- year-old male from San Francisco, went to CVS where he loaded up a backpack with $1074.00 worth of merchandise and left without paying.  The male was arrested by El Cerrito police officer, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.    

Vandalism – Berkeley Country Club 7901 Cutting Blvd
At 5:10 pm, an officer responded to a report of two individuals on dirt bikes riding on the golf course and damaging the greens. The vandals were not located, and a report was taken for the resulting damage.

DUI Arrest – 420 Petco El Cerrito Plaza 
At 5:47 pm, an El Cerrito police officer placed a 58-year-old male from Oakland for driving under the influence.  Employees saw the intoxicated male inside the store shopping and saw the male driving inside the parking lot.  The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation to a responsible family member.

April 7th

Arrest for Trespassing- 5300 block of Rosalind Avenue
At 2:19pm, an El Cerrito police corporal accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 33-year-old female transient, for trespassing onto the victim’s property. The female was released on a citation at the scene. 

Trespassing – 1400 block of Liberty Street
At 3:56pm, an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 33- year-old male from Berkeley, after he was seen trespassing onto the victim’s backyard.  The male was released on a citation at the scene. 

Shoplifting – CVS 670 El Cerrito Plaza
At 5:39pm, officers responded to a report of a theft which had just occurred at CVS. A woman was seen leaving the store with vitamins, household products and makeup without paying. The woman was last seen walking towards the Plaza BART Station. The woman was gone upon the officers’ arrival.

Armed Robbery – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 6:05 pm, the victim were confronted by a suspects as they were walking northbound on San Pablo Ave.  The suspect ripped a camera off of the victim’s neck, and then fled westbound on Bayview Ave.  The victims chased the suspect, but as they got closer, the suspect brandished a firearm at the victim.  The suspects were described as black males wearing dark clothing. 

Simple Battery – 500 block of Lexington Ave
At 7:12 pm, the victim’s 23-year-old son punched him in the face during an argument about the son drinking alcohol inside the house.  The victim did not want to press charges on his son.    

April 8th
Battery – Mira Vista Hotel 6009 Potrero Ave.
At 10:23 am, an employee called about a male hitting a female in the lobby of the hotel.  The male left prior to police arrival, but the female victim was in the parking lot. The victim refused medical treatment, was uncooperative and walked away from officers.  Video surveillance showed the suspect to be a black male adult, wearing a white t-shirt, red shorts, and black flip flops.  The suspect fled in a dark green/blue Toyota, westbound on Potrero Ave.

Grand Theft – 6100 block of Potrero Ave.
At 12:59 pm, the victim reported that an unknown suspect stole their catalytic converter from their vehicle.

Grand Theft - Liberty St near Hill St.
At 4:52 pm, the victim reported that an unknown suspect stole a tire and the catalytic converter to their vehicle.

Shoplifting – Ross: 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 4:54 pm, a suspect placed $380 worth of items in a laundry hamper and fled the store without paying.  The suspect was described as a black male adult in his 30’s, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a grey face mask.

At 5:54 pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and stole several pairs of jeans.

At 8:34 pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and stole several pairs of shoes.

Brandishing a Weapon – 6400 block of Portola Drive
At 12:10 am, an El Cerrito police officer reports a male suspect brandished a machete and threatened his father and fled prior to police arriving.

April 9th

Vandalism – 11800 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 9:07 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered the windows to a business. The incident occurred sometime overnight.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Avenue at Potrero Avenue:
At 7:30 pm an officer pulled a vehicle over that had a motorcycle in the back.  The driver was found to be on probation.  During a probation search the officer discovered the motorcycle had been reported stolen to the San Francisco Police Department.  The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released. 

Warrant Arrest – 11430 San Pablo Avenue:
At 10:44 pm officers contacted an individual and found that he had three separate warrants for his arrest issued by the ECPD, Richmond PD, and San Jose PD.  He was also found to be on probation and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was issued citations for the three warrants, the drug paraphernalia, and a probation violation.   

April 10th 

Theft from vehicle, Vehicle tampering – 700 block of Balra Dr:
At 8:08 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect was seen in their vehicle. The suspect removed her purse from her vehicle and then fled the area in an awaiting vehicle.

Battery – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 11:55 am, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 40-year-old male who entered a business and assaulted an employee. The male was located, placed under citizen’s arrest, and then released on a citation.

Brandishing – San Pablo Ave and Eastshore Blvd:
At 12:17 pm, an officer reports during a road range incident, a driver pulled out a firearm and placed it on the dashboard of his vehicle. The victim went home and then called police to file a report. The suspect was not located.

Warrant Arrest – Fairmount Avenue at Liberty Street:
At 10:43 pm an officer pulled over a vehicle and found the driver had a warrant for her arrest issued by Santa Clara County.  She was issued a citation for the warrant and released. 

April 11th

Warrant Arrest – Potrero Avenue at I-80:
At 1:24 am an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and found the subject had a non-citable warrant for his arrest issued by the Richmond Police Department.  He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  

Theft from a Vehicle and Auto Burglary – 6000 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 9:54 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed an item from the bed of a truck. The suspect then shattered a window to another vehicle and removed property before fleeing the scene.

Battery – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 1:42 pm, an officer reported two subjects got into an argument over parking.  The suspect threw a bottle striking the victim on the head causing a small laceration. The suspect then fled the area prior to police arrival.

Warrant Arrest – 11545 San Pablo Avenue:
At 8:32 pm an officer conducted a suspicious vehicle stop in the parking lot and found one of the occupants had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.  The subject was issued a citation for the warrant.
