In an effort to reduce pedestrian-involved traffic collisions, deputies from South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station and in conjunction with the Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Unit on Prairie Avenue, conducted a traffic safety operation at two heavily-traveled intersections. Traffic enforcement officers were ready to stop and cite motorists who fail to yield to the pedestrians.

The purpose of this operation was to reduce the number of pedestrians struck by vehicles in crosswalks as well as to reduce the severity of crashes involving pedestrians by bringing attention, enforcement, & education to the area.  Our deputies issued 60 citations during the operation and arrested/ released 5 suspended/unlicensed drivers.  Please yield for pedestrians in the crosswalk and obey all traffic laws. Thank You. #LASD #crosswalks #safety
