April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Did you know that one of the main causes of collisions is driving while distracted? Some examples of distracted driving are but not limited to:
- Being on your phone while driving
- Adjusting/turning on your navigation system while driving
- Messing with your radio while driving
- Eating while driving
If you must make a phone call or send a text message, please always pull over where it is safe to do so then make your call or send your text. Be sure to always set your navigation prior to leaving. The same goes for your radio! You can always pre-set your favorite radio channels, so you have the right tunes while driving. I know, the food smells amazing and sometimes you cannot wait, but it is so much safer to wait until you are at your destination to eat!
Traffic Safety Officer Brad Harms stated that according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are approximately 1,000 injuries and 9 fatalities, each day in the United States because of Distracted Driving. TSO Harms says: “If you must drive and talk, how about you walk and talk, or simply wait…… it could save a life”Address/Location
