Narrative:
On April 14, 2021, detectives assigned to the Camarillo Police Department’s Special Enforcement Detail and the Headquarters Station’s Investigation Unit conducted a joint investigation pertaining to a series of burglaries and thefts, which included the unlawful taking of a vehicle.

During the investigation, detectives were able to locate the stolen vehicle driving in the City of Ventura. The vehicle was occupied by a solo male driver, identified as suspect Mario Montez. Detectives recognized Montez from prior contacts and knew he was on active Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for violation of California Vehicle Code section 2800.2(a)-[Evading an Officer, Willful Disregard]. Additionally, detectives knew Montez currently had an active felony warrant for violation of the PRCS conditions.

Detectives followed the stolen vehicle into a parking lot on the 1400 block of Victoria Avenue. At this point, detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Gang Unit arrived on scene to assist with the apprehension of Montez. After a very brief foot pursuit, Montez was taken into custody. During the arrest of Montez, he was found to be in possession of the ignition key to the stolen vehicle.

Detectives then conducted a search of the stolen vehicle and Montez’ property pursuant to his PRCS conditions. During the search, detectives located illegal narcotics that were suspected to be methamphetamine and heroin. Detectives also located an operable stun-gun and tools used to commit burglary.

Mario Montez was booked at the Ventura County Jail for violations of Penal Code sections 148(a)(1)-[Resist, Obstruct, Delay of a Peace Officer], 22610(a)-[Possession of a stun gun], 466-[Possession of burglar tools], 496d(a)-[Receiving stolen property, motor vehicle], California Vehicle Code section 10851(a)-[Unlawful taking of a vehicle], Health and Safety Code sections 11377(a)-[Possession of a controlled substance], and 11350(a)-[Possession of controlled substance]. Additionally, Montez was also booked for his outstanding felony warrant. Montez is currently in custody in lieu of $80,000 bail for the listed charges and no bail for PRCS warrant.
