Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of April 12-18, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 04-12-21 at approximately 11:04 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Irvington Street and Wellington Avenue on a report of a robbery that had occurred five minutes prior. The victim, a 40-year old Walnut Creek resident, said he was selling his 2013 Tesla Model S on Craigslist.com and agreed to meet the buyer in front of the buyer’s apartment on 88 Hillside Boulevard. The victim met with the buyer who agreed to buy the vehicle for $22,500 in cash. The victim said the buyer gave him the cash in an empty Hennessy box, and the buyer encouraged the victim to wait in front of the apartments, and he would call for an UBER for him. The victim said the buyer and his female friend drove off in the Tesla. The victim said he looked at his phone to call his UBER when he heard a woman yelling at him. He said he looked up, heard her say something like, “This is a robbery”, and saw she was running towards him with a gun. The victim said the female pointed the firearm at his stomach, and she took the box and ran away into an awaiting silver Toyota Prius that immediately left the area. The victim described the female as being Asian in her late 20’s, 5’2”, stocky build, wearing a black bandanna on her head, dark mask, black jacket, and dark pants. This investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday, 04-13-21 at approximately 6:55 p.m., Officer Fulmore was dispatched to the Safeway store on 16th Street in San Francisco on a report of a kidnapping that occurred at the Westlake Shopping Center. Officer Fulmore met with a San Francisco P.D. officer who was dispatched to take a report of a kidnapping. The victim, a 30-year old San Bruno resident, said she is a Lyft driver and had dropped off a rider at 4:47 p.m. in Daly City and then drove to the Westlake Shopping Center to pick up another assignment. The victim said she pulled up to a red zone on the 300 block of Park Plaza Drive and waited while looking at her phone. The victim said a Hispanic male adult walked up to the passenger side window and said he was sad because his mother had just passed away and wanted to know if he could get a ride and that he would pay her in cash. The victim said she asked the suspect where he needed to go, and the suspect entered the backseat, saying he would tell her along the way. The victim felt uncomfortable and said she wanted to drop him off at the gas station on the corner. The victim said she felt something poke her right bicep twice, and the suspect yelled at her in Spanish to go. The victim believed the object that poked her was a knife. The victim said the suspect yelled at her to continue and then go to an address in the City where he would have cash and credit cards so he could pay her. The suspect proceeded to direct the victim to drive him to several locations in the City. The suspect finally exited the victim’s vehicle in front of the Safeway on 16th Street. The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 40-45 years old, 5’9”-5’10”, approximately 190 pounds, dark hair pulled into a thin 3-4 inch pony tail or braid and wearing a face mask, blue sweatshirt, and blue or black sweatpants. The victim was physically unharmed. This investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday, 04-13-21 at approximately 5:15 p.m., Officer Zhang and Officer Cain were dispatched to the 400 block of John Daly Boulevard on a report of an adult Hispanic male who told the reporting party that he was being chased by someone with a gun. Several officers were already on the scene and had detained a subject matching the description. The officers determined the subject was not being chased by a suspect with a gun, but rather that the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject, a 47-year old Daly City resident, was sweating profusely (even though there was a cold breeze), had jittery eyes, rapid speech, had a white substance forming at the corner of his mouth, and had a high pulse rate. Officers booked the subject in jail for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

His 48-year old passenger sustained an injury to his face and was transported to the hospital.

On Wednesday, 04-14-21 at approximately 9:06 p.m., Officer Graner conducted a traffic stop for a cellphone violation on the unit block of Midway Drive. The officer issued the driver a promise to appear.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
