El Cerrito Crime Blotter: April 12th - April 20th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 12th

Grand Theft – Exxon 10602 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:14 am, an El Cerrito police officer reports that an unknown suspect cut the lock to the propane cage and stole $1460.00 worth of propane tanks.  The incident was captured on video surveillance cameras and took place on Friday April 9th, 2021 at 9:00pm.

Grand Theft – 2500 block of Edwards Ave.
At 11:22 am, an El Cerrito police officer reports that sometime last night, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from their vehicle. The incident occurred from April 10th to April 12th.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Colusa Ave/Curry Ave.
At 1:01 pm, an El Cerrito police officer located a red Honda CRV that was reported stolen to Berkeley PD on April 10th.

Spousal Battery – Central Ave. at Richmond St.
At 2:42 pm, an El Cerrito police office reports that a 36-year-old male punched his ex-girlfriend in the arm while they were driving through the City of El Cerrito.  The victim drove home to Richmond and reported the incident to police over an hour later.

Grand Theft – CVS 10650 San Pablo Ave.
At 3:12 pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports that two suspects stole $1690.00 worth of items and fled in a red vehicle.

Identity Theft – 3100 block of Carlson Blvd.
At 4:45pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports that unknown suspects fraudulently withdrew several thousand dollars from several banks across California using the victim’s credit card.

Vandalism – 11100 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 5:53pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect used an unknown object to break the glass front door of a business which was under renovation.

April 13th

Stolen Vehicle – El Cerrito Plaza
At 7:51 am, an El Cerrito police officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Dodge Ram pickup sometime overnight.

April 14th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave / Schmidt Ln.
At 6:00 am, an El Cerrito police officer located a stolen Toyota Prius abandoned and partially blocking the roadway. The vehicle was towed and stored.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 5200 block of Victor Ave.
At 8:01 am, an El Cerrito police officer reports an unknown suspect abandoned a stolen 1990 Honda Civic and set the interior on fire. The Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was towed and stored.

April 15th

Arson – 900 blk of Liberty St:
At 03:52 hours, officers responded to the report of a fire at a residence.  The occupants made it out of the residence safely.  ECPD Detectives and the Contra Costa County Fire Investigator responded to the scene.                                   

Drug Possession – 800 block of Everett St.
At 8:48 am, an El Cerrito police officer contacted a 46-year-old male and found him in possession of methamphetamine. The male was issued a citation and released.

Domestic Battery – Barrett Ave. / Harris Ave.
At 2:40 pm, officers responded to the report of a man battering a woman and spitting in the face of a citizen that attempted to intervene.  Responding officers located the suspect, a 19-year-old El Cerrito man hiding in Poinsett Park.  The male suspect was arrested for falsely imprisoning the victim, committing battery resulting in a traumatic condition and stealing the victim’s property by force.  He was booked into MDF.  ECPD Detectives conducted additional follow up and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office filed multiple felony charges.   

Vandalism – 11070 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:20 pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports an unknown suspect broke one of the windows to the business with an unknown object.

April 16th

Battery – 10600 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 9:31 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached the victim and punched him in the face for new apparent reason. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. The victim suffered some minor scrapes and cuts.

Theft from Auto – 6100 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:14 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed approximately $800 in property from the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight.

April 17th

Warrant Arrest – 11400 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 1:16 pm, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and subsequently arrested a 37-year-old male for an outstanding warrant. The male was identified, taken into custody, and then transported to county jail.

Driving Under the Influence – Arlington Blvd at Potrero Avenue:
At 12:59 am an officer pulled over a vehicle and after an investigation determined the driver was intoxicated.  The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released. 

Possession of Controlled Substance for sales – 10422 San Pablo Avenue (Bank of America):
At 3:59 am an officer contacted an individual parked in a disabled stall.  The individual had drug paraphernalia in the car that the officer could see.  The suspect was asked to exit the car and inside the car he found several different kinds of controlled substances, two scales, and a large amount of cash.  The subject was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released.  

April 18th

Stolen Vehicle – 6000 block of Avila St:
At 10:31 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect took their vehicle sometime overnight. The incident occurred sometime over the previous day.

Vehicle Tampering – 1700 block of Ganges Ave:
At 11:33 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect attempted to steal the catalytic converter from their vehicle. The crime occurred sometime overnight.

Warrant Arrest – BART path at Hill Street:
At 9:04 pm and officer spotted a subject on the BART path that he knew had a felony warrant for his arrest.  The officer placed the subject under arrest for the warrant held by the Richmond Police Department and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Burglary – 3160 Carlson Blvd. (76 station):
At 11:17 pm officers responded to the report that three suspects had just entered the business and stolen packs of cigarettes and lottery tickets and left the business. 

April 19th

Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 12:47 pm, an officer reports the citizen’s arrest of a 28-year-old male. The male entered the business, selected merchandise, and then attempted to leave without paying. The male was identified and then issued a citation.

Driving Under the Influence – 9937 San Pablo Avenue (Crown Bar):
At 7:51 pm, officers were dispatched to the report that a subject had just collided with several cars in the parking lot and attempted to drive away.  Officers arrived and found that the subject had collided with three parked vehicles.  After an investigation, an officer determined the subject had been driving under the influence and placed him under arrest, booked him at ECPD, and then he was released with a citation. 

Petty Theft – 3160 Carlson Blvd. (76 Station):
At 5:54 pm, two suspects entered the store and one of the suspects distracted the clerk while the other went behind the counter and stole cash and lottery tickets.  Both suspects then left the store. 

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:15 pm, a suspect entered the store and selected merchandise and then walked out with it failing to pay for it. 

Shoplifting – 10794 San Pablo Avenue (Marshall’s):
At 8:58 pm, a suspect came into the store, selected merchandise, and walked out without paying for it.  An officer was arriving to the call just when the suspect was walking out.  They were placed under citizen’s arrest by store employees and the property was recovered.  The suspect was issued a citation and released.   

April 20th

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Central Avenue at Pierce Street:
At 12:27 am an officer located a parked unoccupied vehicle that had been reported stolen to the San Rafael Police Department.  The vehicle was recovered and towed from the scene.
