On April 20, 2021 at approximately 1:30 pm, a bicyclist reported a possible dead body in the Baylands Park area (999 E. Caribbean). Sunnyvale officers responded to discover the body located on a soft mud embankment along the north side of a small creek, south of the Sunnyvale Materials Recovery and Transfer Station trail. The body was partially submerged and entangled in vegetation along the embankment. The soft mud surrounding the body showed no signs of footprints or other human activity.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner responded to the scene and retrieved the body for further investigation into the cause and manner of death.
Due to decomposition, we have not yet been able to identify the body. Although there was no evidence of criminal activity at the scene, this is an active investigation and we don’t yet know the cause or manner of death. As new information about this investigation becomes available, we will release it through our social media platforms.
