SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at approximately 4:02 PM, deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a 3-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Third Avenue in the City of Hesperia. Deputies arrived on the scene and found a total of 9 occupants suffering from various types of injuries. The Hesperia Station’s M.A.I.T team was requested to the scene to conduct the investigation.
Investigators believe from evidence obtained from the scene and witness statements. A white 2017 Mazda 3 was traveling westbound on Third Avenue and failed to stop for a posted stop sign colliding with a black 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The impact from the initial collision caused the black Cobalt to overturn, ejecting the driver. The white Mazda continued traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Seventh Avenue, colliding into a silver 2002 Ford F150, which was traveling southbound Seventh Avenue.
The Mazda 3 had a total of 5 occupants, both male and female, 2 of those occupants were airlifted to local trauma centers with serious injuries, one was transported by ground to an area hospital for moderate injuries, and the other two were released at the scene. The Ford F-150 had a total of 3 occupants, a male, and 2 females, all of which were transported by ground to a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries. The Chevrolet Cobalt had a single occupant who was transported by ground to a local hospital where despite life-saving measures, succumbed to the injuries sustained during the collision.
Seventh Avenue and Third Avenue were closed in all directions while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. The collision remains under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the collision. Any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy R. Ballantyne or Deputy D. Caudle from the Hesperia Police Station.
