Kern County Jane Doe 1980 - IDENTIFIED
As we round out Crime Victims’ Week 2021, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the resolution of a cold case nearly 40 years in the making.
Kern County Jane Doe #5 was found stabbed to death on July 14, 1980 in an almond orchard just north of Bakersfield, CA. In February of 2020, 39 years later, Jane Doe was finally identified. We now know her name to be Shirley Soosay.
The attached video presentation details the work of numerous agencies and organizations that never gave up on learning the identity of Jane Doe #5, and the family who never stopped looking for Shirley Soosay.
