El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: April 20th - April 25th, 2021.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
April 20th

Grand Theft- 2500 block of Edwards Street
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a 2011 Honda during the night of the 18th.

Petty Theft- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect distracted a woman who was shopping while a second suspect stole the woman’s wallet from her shopping cart.

Burglary- 900 block of Liberty Street
An unknown suspect burglarized a residence between the 18th at 2:00 pm and the 19th at 4:30 pm.

Warrant Arrest-Barrett Avenue and Mount Avenue
Detectives arrested a 19-year-old El Cerrito man for a domestic violence arrest warrant stemming from an investigation last week. The man was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft- 11511 San Pablo Avenue
During the afternoon, an unknown suspect stole a cell phone from a display and fled towards the BART station.

April 21st

Shoplifting- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 2:48 pm, an unknown suspect entered Ross, selected 13 pairs of shoes, and then left without paying.

Grand Theft/Burglary- 1400 block of Elm Street
Around 0548 hours, unknown suspect broke into several vehicles and then stole four wheels from a Dodge SUV.

Burglary- 700 Kearney Street

An unknown suspect broke into a Honda Accord and stole items sometime during the night.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 6:00 pm, an officer reports the Citizens Arrest of a 29-year-old man who was stopped after leaving the store with concealed merchandise. The man was issued a citation and released.

DUI Collision – San Pablo Avenue / Moeser Lane
At 6:14 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 26-year-old man for DUI after the man was involved in a head on collision. The man was arrested and later released from the El Cerrito Police Department with a citation.

Stolen Vehicle – Hill Street / Liberty Street
At 7:58 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle which had been parked on the street sometime over the past few days.

April 22nd

Theft – 1300 block of Lawrence Street
At 8:33 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s side yard via an unlocked fence and removed a late model bicycle.

April 23

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 3300 block of Belmont Ave:
At 8:28 am, an officer located a vehicle which was involved in a carjacking in Albany. The vehicle owner picked up his vehicle after the Albany Police processed it for evidence.

Stolen Vehicle and Commercial Burglary – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 1:50 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered a vehicle dealership and took a customer car from the repair shop. The suspect was caught on surveillance camera committing the crime (See April 24th for an update.)

Battery – 6120 Potrero Avenue (Los Moles):
At 8:30 pm, officers were sent to a call that a subject had come into the restaurant and sat down and started harassing the band and other customers.  When an employee asked the subject to leave, he spat on the employee and then fled the area. 

Robbery – Fairmount Avenue at Ashbury Avenue:
At 8:37 pm, officers were dispatched to the report of an armed Robbery.  While the victim was walking a suspect approached her and brandished a firearm with a laser.  The suspect demanded her property.  He then removed a shoulder bag and ripped the cell phone from their hand and ran away.  
  
Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 9:12 pm, officers were dispatched to the report of shoplifting.  When the officer arrived, the suspect had already left the business with the stolen property. 

Attempted Grand Theft – 6400 block of Macdonald Avenue:
At 10:39 pm, officers were dispatched to the report that a resident had just scared two suspects away from his vehicle as they were cutting the catalytic converter off the car. 

April 24

Driving Under the Influence – 1200 block of Navellier Street:
At 12:02 am officers were dispatched to the report that a vehicle had struck two parked vehicles.  When the officers arrived, an investigation was conducted, and the driver was determined to be driving while intoxicated.  The suspect was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then released to a sober friend. 

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue at Moeser Lane:
At 3:39 am officers were dispatched to the intersection for a person passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was waiting at the red light.  When the officers arrived, an investigation was conducted and the driver was determined to be intoxicated.  The suspect was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then released to a sober family member.    

Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Commercial Burglary, Resisting, False Identification and Warrant Arrest – 6000 block of Potrero Avenue:
At 7:37 am, an officer located a vehicle which was stolen from a dealership the previous day. A 42-year-old male from Oakland was inside the vehicle and detained. Investigation revealed the male was the person who stole the vehicle. During the booking process the male gave a name of another person and refused to identify himself when discovered. At county jail the male’s true identity was discovered and revealed he was a parolee at large for a robbery. The male was booked into county jail.

Grand Theft – 600 block of Norvell St:
At 2:20 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle sometime overnight.

Grand Theft – 11300 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 3:35 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle.

April 25

Possession of Controlled Substance and Burglary Tools – Fairmount Ave. at Richmond St.

At 2:22 am an Officer pulled over a vehicle and found the driver was on probation for possession of stolen property.  During a search of the subject suspected Methamphetamine was found on his person.  During a search of his vehicle tools commonly used to steal catalytic converters were found in his vehicle in violation of his probation status.  He was issued a citation in the field and released from the scene.   

Commercial Burglary – 10700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 6:35 am, an officer reports two unknown suspects forced entry to a business and then entered. Once inside the suspects set off the alarm and then quickly fled.

Auto Burglary – 800 block of Ashbury Ave:
At 07:54 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Auto Burglary – 800 block of Ashbury:
At 8:01 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Auto Burglary – 800 block of Ashbury:
At 07:18 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Auto Burglary – 200 block of Ashbury Ave:
At 8:31 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Auto Burglary – 400 block of Clayton Ave:
At 10:36 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Grand Theft – 2600 block of Carquinez Ave:
At 2:33 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:06 pm an officer was dispatched for the report that a suspect had just left the store with three pairs of shoes without paying for them.  The suspect was gone when the officer arrived.
