On Sunday, 4-25-2021, at approximately 8:30 am, Sausalito Police Officers received calls regarding a woman screaming for help and a vehicle that was on fire in the 100 block of Rodeo Avenue.  Southern Marin Fire and Sausalito Police arrived on-scene and contacted a female who was in distress.  She related that as she was entering her vehicle when an adult male subject pulled her out of her vehicle. She attempted to fight back against the subject but he was able to obtain control of the vehicle and drive off in the victim’s vehicle.
 
Prior to forcefully taking the victim’s vehicle, the suspect set fire to a vehicle’s passenger compartment in the adjacent carport. Based on witness statements it is believed that this vehicle belongs to and was parked in that location by the suspect.  Southern Marin Fire was able to extinguish the fire before the vehicle became fully engulfed or caused any damage to the carport. 
 
With the assistance of Mercedes-Benz, the victim’s vehicle was tracked to San Francisco.  Sausalito Police Officers, with the assistance of San Francisco Police Officers, were able to locate and process the victim vehicle for evidence. The vehicle was then returned to the victim undamaged.
 
Sausalito Police have identified a person of interest and are actively investigating this case.
